Saint Charles Borromeo School was founded by Father Xavier Morras in 1960. The new school was dedicated by Bishop Coleman F. Carroll of Miami on September 4, 1960. Classes began on September 4, 1960 with sixty-two students enrolled in grades 1-4. The school was staffed and administered by the Sisters of Saint Joseph from the Diocese of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. In 1961, the school expanded to include Grade 5.
The construction of a new wing and cafeteria was completed for the beginning of the school year in September 1964. The school opened that year for grades 1-8 and an enrollment of 167 students. In 1966, the Daughters of the Congregation of Mary
replaced the Sisters of Saint Joseph as the school’s staff and administrators. They remained at the school for only one year, and in 1967, were replaced by the Sisters of Mercy from Ireland.

Three Sisters of Saint Dominic from Adrian, Michigan, joined the staff in 1976 and a Felician Sister joined the school in 1979. In 1983, two Sisters of Providence from Indiana also joined the staff.
Growth led to new classrooms for grades K – 8, along with a parish center and cafeteria in the early 1990s. Other enhancements such as pre-kindergarten classrooms, a technology lab and a media center were added to the school in 2001.

In the summer of 2004, both the parish and school were devastated by Hurricane Charley. The K-8 wing suffered major damage and the roof was torn off the building. The 2004-2005 school year started only two weeks late, as classes were held in any useable space available. Most of the school was gutted and had to be rebuilt. In January of 2005, the classroom wing reconstruction was completed.
